Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG/ECG)

Electrocardiograms (EKG/ECG) are performed routinely during medical examinations, pre-surgical evaluations, before initiating fitness programs, as well as the assessment and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The electrocardiogram, or EKG/ECG, is a recording of the electrical impulses that generate the heartbeats or contractions of the heart. The EKG is an essential diagnostic tool in establishing the health and function of the cardiovascular system.

EKG Technicians
Today professional, well trained EKG technicians are needed in different areas of the healthcare industry, including hospitals, physician's offices, cardiac rehabilitation clinics, and other medical settings. Their duties include assisting doctors and nurses with cardiac exams, such as EKGs and treadmill stress exams; EKG recording; taking care of the equipment; and communicating with the physician, nurse, patient, and the patient's family. Strong communication skills, compassion, understanding, caring, and flexibility are important traits an EKG technician needs to possess.
